So, now that I am in the full swing of trying to get my little ‘business’ going, I am on the grind, early morning, nap time, free play time. Whenever I get the chance I am trying to improve my little shop. That means that I am sewing like my life depends on it. Lots of sewing.

Lately, Ive been trying to perfect my handbags, wristlets, and clutches. Ive had a lot of great feedback on them, so I am trying to work real hard on making them extra fabulous. I am part of two craft groups on Facebook. and from one time or another, I’ve heard about craft related injuries. Hot glue gun burns, slicing your finger with a rotary cutter (done that), and sewing a needle through your finger. That last one sounds excruciatingly painful, right? And you’ve got to be pretty incompetent to actually do that. How in the world is someone so oblivious that they actually sew the needle right through their finger?! Well, I did the other day. The needle went through my finger and out the tip. Ive got a pretty gross wound to prove it, ha!

I keep my sewing machine downstairs so I can be near my daughter, while also allowing her to have some free time indoor or outdoors. The windows are open, there IS a light breeze flowing through the house, I’m happily sewing another cute handbag in record time. It was a good day, as Im taking a quick peek out of the window to check on my daughter, I sewed right through the tip of my pointer finger!!! OUCH!

It was not as painful as I thought it would be. After I got over the shock of what I had just done I ran to the bathroom, put my finger under some cold water for about 10mins and then, screamed for  my husband. Long story short,  I did not go to the ER, hubby  made me dip my finger in a little cup of hydrogen peroxide for the next 15 mins. And within 30 mins the pain subsided, and was virtually gone. Oh the healing powers of hydrogen peroxide!

I suppose all avid crafters have at least one interesting injury stories. But, in my defense I Let me just say that because a zipper foot has virtually no covering it was way too easy to get my little finger -all- up- in- therr! I have a pretty cool battle scar and it makes for quite an interesting story, ha.

Tips to keep the ‘tips’ of your fingers from being sewn. Pun totally intended.
1.) When you are not sewing, please for the love of all that is good, do NOT keep your foot on the foot peddle.
2.) Keep your eye on the needle! This is not the time to prove your multitasking skills.
3.)Go SLOW!
2.) Keep your hands far way from the front part of the needle.
3.) Is your foot still off of the foot peddle? Good.
